Bob MacKenzie also gave the voting system the thumbs down but said because the game is in Montreal and it's the 100 year anniversary that it doesn't really matter, compared to if it was happening in another city with another team's players.

Hodge and McKenzie are right the system is dumb and it takes away from the honor of being named an All-Star stater, however the NHL is a business and this is a premier revenue builder.

The NHL loves this, it's causing major publicity which the voting system and allstar game usually doesn't get. It's also firing up other teams to go out and vote for their guys. It's good all around for the NHL.

Yup. But they never bothered saying it was dumb before. It was "dumb" the moment it was announced years ago; and it wasn't designed to be "smart" -- it was designed to get fans involved.

Hodge and McKenzie (and Clark) all kinda sound sorta "dumb" now making a big point out of it. It is what it was designed to be, and what it has been for several years now.

The only part they really think is "dumb", is this year's (early) Eastern results -- which they don't "like". Well, "with won ton you get egg roll" (or however that saying goes! laugh.gif )

Yes, I believe you are right. All part of why they left Captcha off at the start. They used it before, but left it off to allow the auto-votes to create at least one or the first story. It's all part of PR -- any news is good news.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but fan balloting is there so that the 6 players fans want to see most get to start. If fans want to see the Habs in Montreal then hows that flawed? The other 14 players are there because they deserved it and its up to the NHL to say so. Just my opinion.

Yup. You call up the Detroit Red Wing owners and concessionaires this morning and they'll glowingly talk of the Habs and their fans -- sat their behinds in 8,000 of their (more expensive) seats last night, ate their 'dogs, drank their (crappy) Budweiser.

Also, gave Dave, his brother Bob, and his other brother Bob something to do and get paid for -- I expect the TSN viewership numbers were pretty good last night.

But only the Turds Sports Network guys are complaining.

Has Anyone considered that it's not just us Habs fans voting but others paying tribute by voting 6 habs Starters. If Detroit was celebrating their 100th and the all star game was in Detroit I'd prob vote 6 Detroit players.

that's true. like Markov was voted in last year and i'm sure he got helped from people other than in montreal and i think that would be true for Price to. So i think for those two we can definately say that they're getting help from elsewhere. maybe some calgary fans still like tanguay and are voting him in. never know. I doubt some are voting for all 6 but i'm sure the votes for them are not all coming from montreal.

The worst thing would be that after everyone has made such a big deal how Montreal is rigging it to only have MOntreal Canadiens in the lineup, IF WE LOSE and dont actuall have just us in there.

It would be horrific,

come on guys Keep up the voting .

ALL 6 CANADIENS

Not that it matters if we lose its a meaningless game, we should follow suit with the MLB and give the winning team home-ice in the Finals.

We still don't play enough games vs opposing confrences to deem home-ice worthy because of standings.

Yeah, they're making now so only a computer script can actually execute a vote. The one minute thing is hardly relevant any longer, because it takes a minute to get a vote in now.

They've changed it force you to submit the vote(s) first now, and then enter the Captcha confirmation/token when it comes back. And you're right -- a good portion of the time, one or more of the Captha charachters are not on my qwerty keyboard -- they look like some Greek letters or something (reminds, I could pmail GHC or someone here, for help then laugh.gif )

Okay just a quick thought here...maybe we should start voting for Laraque? He only has 1,420 votes right now, and if we want him in the All-Star Game to have some fights with Chara or Lucic (if those two guys even make it), we should probably get voting!!!

when they tell you capcha not correct, just click submit votes again and it will pop up on the second try.

I wonder if Bob Gainey has voted at all...

It's a post about the Pittsburgh fans commandeering it and (supposedly, starting today) voting for 6 Penguins with it.
Habsgirl3823
Well, in regards to that Penguins script thing, I can only hope that they get the automated votes taken away just like the Canadien players did.
Innis_Mor
Penguins script is now running like gangbusters:
  • 20,000 to 22,000 votes for each of the Penguin players over the last 24 hours, most of that since this morning -- they're all getting 1500 to 2000 votes per hour
  • Fleury gaining ground fast on Price
  • Gonchar (has he even played a game as yet?; he won't be eligible) has moved past Green, with Penguin Whitney ( blink.gif )in lock step, and they're on a pace to catch both Komisarek and Markov well before Christmas, easy
I suppose this is starting to turn into a bit of a joke -- can the NHL even tell what votes cast are scripted?

I'm just going on sudden accelerated pace of vote myself (well, that and the fact the Penguins fans posted the script on their board this morning biggrin.gif ) -- timing is a little coincidental, and the results a little too fantastic ..... wink.gif

More "PR" for the NHL .... rolleyes.gif

How hard would it have been to only say that you read a script on the pens board and reported it without actually pasting the whole deal on here? rolleyes.gif

Good grief! It's not Colonel Sander's Secret Recipe, for crying out loud. wink.gif ( biggrin.gif ).

If anyone here wanted to "re-commandeer" it for their own purposes, they would simply go to the message board I referenced and find it withing 2-3 clicks themselves. No one should be using script, and I clearly was not supporting it's use by anyone.

Most certainly, the Mod's can go ahead and delete the script code captured in my post, if they'd like (I don't even have a direct clue whether that one actually works or not)-- that wouldn't bother me at all ("permission granted", so to speak biggrin.gif ). Cheers.

In my office at work voting for our boys as much as I can , boss is away LOLz.

as far as the boys at TSN ( Toronto Sports Network ) tongue.gif , the fans can vote for whomever they please and I agree with the folks on here saying that the whole idea is for getting the fans involved in a game that otherwise doesn't allways have this much interest so quickly !
TORHABSFAN
Crosby is going to pass Tanguay and probably Kovalev and Koivu as well.

There is too much time left and he keeps gaining. We are not voting enough anymore... Get back at it folks.. Keep it a full sweep!!

I think just sometimes folks may get a bit frutrated with the quickness with witch posts will be closed , or people told to post in proper spot. I appreciate the job that the folks who look after this forum do , but sometimes you're good intentions can be taken as a "Buzz Killer" by folks and perhaps seen as nit picking even if was not meant to be at all. I know I've seen things get moved litterally withing seconds of it being posted and while you may not intend to , people can take offense , or feel like they not part of the community.

Aside from that , now that I am helping Hi Jack this post..... I just Voted another 5 times for the guys while the boss wasn't looking !!! Let's kepp it up folks !!!! tongue.gif

Don't see why anyone would. You're completely right.
AlexK
This is going to be the most embarassing all-star game ever if the Habs get all their players in. The only player that is near the top in their position is Andrei Markov. Tanguay, Koivu, Komisarek, and Kovalev are no where near the top in points in their position. It will be embrassing for them to step out on the ice when some many other players this year should be there ahead of them.

Well, you obviously, since you're the one carrying on the conversation. If you don't like what a member says just ignore the post, if you feel the need to comment do it by PM.
rob2h
Something needs to be done about the voting system, like one vote per person.I understand we all like the habs but all but 2 of these guys who are starting so far aren't deserving at all.

I think it is embarrassing for the NHL to have players there who don't deserve it.
It doesn't mean you aren't a hab fan to not vote their players, just please pick the best players and do everyone involved a favour.
RSD
none of them deserve to start other than price in my opinion...todays game really did it for me...they can play they showed it and tonight they just barely try...i hope they dont get to start and other teams fans start voting because there are others out there who deserve the starting spots
"Rocket"
I would love to see Price/Markov/Koivu/Tanguay making it, that's it, that's all lol.
jennifer_rocket
I would like to see, at the least, Price start.

I would also like Koivu and Markov to make it. It doesn't necessarily need to be in a starting role, but... You know, just for them to be there would be worth it.
AlexK
Koivu and Tanguay are not even in the top 30 in scoring. Koivu in number 26 in scoring in centers. Consider that only four players from each position get to go. There are far more desearving players.
Price4Prez
I for one, would like to see Kovalev make it. This type of competition is taylor made for him. yes, this year isn't as great as last year, but i tink he totally got ripped off last year, he definately deserved it more then other players last year, so why not have a little justice this year!!!
Twidi
Are you guys serious about having 6 starting Habs players in the NHL allstar game? They don't even deserve being on the ballot let alone the freaking game. This is outrageous, Kovalev doesn't do anything but deeking pucks during practice, Markov keeps missing the net every time he shoots, Tanguay is average, Koivu is average (I feel sorry for him being with a bunch of average players and never really having a chance to do good), Price is alright but there are better goalies then him in the NHL, Komisarek is average. This team barely has 6 NHL established players, the rest are all AHL/University players.
Graeme
Relax everyone, it's just a fun game. Are 6 Habs the most deserving? Of course not, realistically I don't think any should be starting and only Price and Markov should be there as reserves. But it's the Centennial, the game is in Montreal, and it doesn't count for anything. Personally, I'll enjoy the game more if I can cheer for the Habs players to score, so I'm trying to vote them all in.

Exactly. My votes would be different if it weren't the case and I also think there wouldn't be 6 Habs on the ballot to begin with if it werent the case.
keithman
I'm sticking with these 6:

Saku Koivu (i don't care if he starts or not, just he's playing well so I'd like the captain to be there to represent montreal)
Andrei Markov
Alex Ovechkin
Mike Greene
Evgeni Malkin
Carey Price (he actually does deserve to be there)

West:
henrik zetterberg
Pavel dastyuk
Jarome Iginla
Niklas lidstrom
Dion Phaneuf
Roberto Luongo

So some one could report it to the NHL maybe? (I have no idea how -- NHL provides no contact means on their web site(s)). A reference (only) to a web site controlled by others (such as the Penguins board) could quickly become a dead-end if the post is removed there. Anyways, no biggie.
SK74
If there are two players we cannot let slip off that list it is Price & Koivu! Regardless of where he's at in points standings, after everything he's been through he deserves to be there for once.
habsin09
Crosby's caught up, we gotta vote more!
AlexK
It doesn't matter how hard you are supposedly trying in terms of the all-star game. It just matters how many points you produce IMO. Koivu is somewhere around number 60 in the NHL in points. Tanguay and Kovalev are somewhere beyond that point which is even worse. This is all really a sham IMO. If hard work was a the basis for getting in the all-star game then Kostopolus should be in there.

And O'Byrne. He works his tail off, makes mistakes along the way, and they often look glaring on D. But NHL has this voting thing to make it a popularity contest. Obviously, Ovechkin, Malkin and Crosby should be the first three forwards, but they'll still be there. It'll only be a Richards or a Staal that gets bumped from the game.

It could very well be like that; it's not looking like any of the others will be caught -- only Crosby is closing the gap fast enough -- he needs to continue to out-garner Tanguay for votes at a 2,000/day clip, which is what he has been doing recently. The vote is going to be close, and likely come down to the wire. The FabHab-6 vote will be helped if the NHL reverses the 10-12,000 extra Pens' votes from Thursday that seemed to crop up via script -- about that "way too many" votes were posted for the Pens players that day (27th).
AlexK
You should only be voting for Price and Markov. Price is 12th in the NHL in save percentage and Markov is number 5 in the NHL in points for a defenseman. After that the forwards are around 60 plus in points in the NHL.
AlexK
I just thought I'd warn you that Alex Kovalev is not good in the all-star game. I saw him in one in his prime and he fumbled the puck multiple times on the puck relay competition. He was one least hard shots on the hardest shot competition. He also didn't do anything great on the breakaway competition. He just did his normal forhand to backhand and beat Roy. We all know he isn't very good in the shootout an he usually doesn't try anything very fancy eventhough you expect it.
