Habs of 2008 > Cup Teams of the Red Wings and Oilers?
HabSteve
CITATION(AFistFullofFlyer @ Nov 14 2008, 08:19 PM) *
It may ruin alot more than that. If you truly believe all those players deserve to be in there, then you got to believe the Habs must be the best team in the NHL. I am not sure when the last team had 6 players in there. I can't even recall the Red Wings, or Edmonton ever doing that.

It's more of an event, I dont think we were voting because all of them deserved to be there, the nhl asked to vote for our favorite, and to vote often, which we are doing, any other team fabase could have done so. We're just showing our support for our team and I think they appreciate it, it's one shift on the ice for 30 seconds.

Beat me to it WJ. Bizarre really; rather standard practice.

Helps explain the slowed pace now. I kinda suspect the 6 will all win if they don't roll back the auto-generated votes. We'll see.

Has anyone read this? Canadiens boosted by suspicious all-star voting...

I don't know if the RDS site link up there is this topic or not, but I thought it was rather amusing.

If that were all Pitt's players, it'd be fine because they're the "Best" with the most "popular" players...But because it's the Habs they assume that someone is cheating the numbers...

However, if someone is cheating the numbers, this will ruin the fan voting, and it probably won't be there any longer.

This is getting ridiculous, now all the media is picking up on us "cheating"...If they do subtract some votes all I know is that Koivu, Tanguay, Kovalev, Price, and Komisarek better still be in the lead.

I can't even vote. I voted for the habs about 10 times yesterday, and now I am being told "access denied". I'm going to contact the NHL to voice my displeasure.

Well, Price already passed last years leader in like 2 days. Brodeur had 185k votes and Price has 210k already.

Guys stop using the scripts and stuff... If they still work that is..... we've already got like 100,000k leads on 6 players, no need to use these methods.

We're giving the NHL a reason to play with vote count...
Angelamc
Shame on all you auto-voters. I'm sure that your boys Koivu, Kovalev, Tanguay, Markov, Komisarek, and Price are extremely pleased to know that they are first in the ballotting because a computer kept voting for them. Fans who like to cut corners are the same fans who jump ship at first sign of a storm. Cheers to clever little computer geek who made this possible, you deserve a cookie for pissing off all true hockey fans who hold an Allstar game in their hearts as a night to see the best together on the ice. I hope they call a 'no goal' on all votes for Canadiens players.
js2
The fans that used the scripts are pathetic and if it were up to me I'd ban those who posted them.

As of 3 pm, all player are at least 100,000 votes ahead. Crazy.

And I really hope they don't start deleting an insane amount of votes. I have been voting hard, the old fashioned way: texting.

And I'd hate for scripts to ruin it for us.

I dont blame fans for multi-voting manually. Its the fault of the NHL website that they didnt come up with a good system to stop this. I have only voted once because I think its wrong to vote multiple times.

Actually they are encouraging multiple voting. Stopping it would be very easy considering they force you to log in.

QUOTE (AFistFullofFlyer @ Nov 14 2008, 02:24 PM) *
I have no idea how they will accurately figure out which votes are botted from people manually clicking.

There's no way to tell what is a bot and what is a human with the exception of if the number of votes is faster than a human could possibly do so. My guess is the NHL just says "we'll do it better from here on in" since removing votes would be very controversial.

The time limit is a good start, at a minimum it slows bots down so they can vote a maximum of just under 1500 times a day. The captcha is something the NHL should have had from the start. However, it still appears to me that they are using a pre-defined set of images instead of randomly generating them, meaning this can be broken fairly easily with some time (I'm not sure how many images there are). You may also see semi-automated scripts where you only need to enter the captcha.

In the end, this was stupidity on the NHL's part. They put absolutely no security measures to stop scripts up even after the whole Rory thing a couple of years ago.
"Rocket"
Im not a computer freak so i could care less about the script, what works for me is, i vote then i hit the arrow to go back one page and vote again and again lol.

Anyway with the canadiens fans, im not worried a bit, they could start up every habs player counter back to 0 and at the end of the voting these players would still win by a few hundreds of thousands of votes.
Ricochet
They added an image verification code, I didn't read back to see if that had been mentioned. I've been voting an average of once a day, and I believe that is reasonable when multiple voting is encouraged and/or expected.

I'm disappointed that Hejduk and Sakic aren't even on the radar, but I'll keep voting for them. Campbell is up there, but too far behind, so I'm basically tossing those votes out lol. Lidstrom, Luongo/Nabokov and Zetterberg/Datsyuk are my other western picks and I've been mixing votes between them.

For the East, I've been voting for Tanguay/Kovalev/Koivu - Markov/Gonchar - Price, but I've thrown a couple of votes Komisarek's and Fleury's way.

I simply don't see Komisarek fitting in to an all star game. I'm a little worried he will hurt somebody to be honest. I hope he gets in and can manage to have fun while playing a lighter style, but I just don't see it going over well. People want to see high scores and no injuries and Komi blocks shots and plays rough. tongue.gif

But it's not just for the habs player because Crosby is in fourth place with 68 000 and last nitgh Semin was there with 75 000. This is very strange.

It will be hard to see Gonchar there, because he is supposed to be out for 4 to 6 months... and one the bottom of the voting ballot, it says:

CODE
To be eligible for the 2009 All-Star team, a player must have played 20 games by January 2, 2009.

And one wonders why they put him ON the ballot in first place.

I'm not really sure this constitutes anything illegal though. It's against the contest rules, but I don't believe it's against the law. Which is why I left up the original references to the Greasemonkey script, I didn't see it as necessarily breaking any of the board rules. Can breaking a contest rules where there is no financial gain to the breacher be considered illegal (any lawyers on here)?

Another interesting point, they never actually make you agree to the contest rules when you register or vote, just the generic NHL.com terms of service and privacy policy.

In any case, it's probably moot now since the script posted doesn't work.

Honestly I'm voting for them all even if they don't all totally deserve it. The NHL Fan Voting has never been "fair". Certain teams who can get people to vote have always had it biased in their favour (San Jose a couple years ago). The top players will still make the team as reserves, and if we can get all 6 Habs in there, why not? It will make the game more fun for us fans and be something extra for the Centennial year.

Not that I want to argue this on the open forum, but the way I read it from day one was that what's against NHL rules constitutes illegal activities as it is what governs this site.
