After watching the game tonight, does komi really deserve to be in the allstar game
Michael Komisarek D 19:16 0 0 -2
He finished the game with a -2
He brings 0 offense to the table, and he is still bit rusty after being injrued for the majority of the season....
Whats he going to do in the allstar game? Hes not going to score, hes not going to hit anyone?

Maybe he could hit Lucic/Kessel if they're in

and no he doesn't deserve to be in, the only Hab deserving is Markov.

does it even matter? no one does anything in those games anyway. the fact is this is our all star game, its montreal's centennial, therefore we deserve to be well represented.

Im sorry but I beg to differ.
An argument can easily be made for Price as a Starter - and Kovalev as one of the 16 forwards (although he shouldnt be a starter).
I agree Komi shouldnt be there, but if the Pens fans hadnt pushed through 2 guys who havent even combined for 6 games this year, I would have happily voted for one of the more deserving dmen in the east.

Ryan Miller should be the unquestioned starter IMO and as good as Kovy played last year, I'd say 1% chance he would be put in as a reserve.

Are you talking about 16-10-4, 18th ranked sv%, 19th ranked GAA, Ryan Miller? If so, I fail to see how he could be the unquestioned starter. He's hardly been a standout this year.
As far as Kovalev goes, I think its a fair to say that last year was taken account when balloting was announced. Based on Kovalev's performance last year I don't think its an enormous stretch to imagine him a reserve. Many were outraged when he was snubbed last year.
Graeme
Jan 3 2009, 03:06 AM
Markov deserves to be there, probably as a starter, certainly as a reserve
Kovalev does not deserve to be a starter. Based on this season he does not deserve to be a reserve either, but when you take last season into account (which they often do: especially considering guys with great starts like Tim Thomas were snubbed from the nomination list) it's not so bad: last season he should have gotten a reserve spot.
Price deserves to be there certainly as a reserve, possibly as a starter. The argument for him deserving to start is strengthened by Thomas not being on the ballot. Price is top 10 in both save percentage and GAA in the league, and the players beating him tend to be in the West or former backups having a strong stretch of games (who are not on the ballot, and tend to not get picked anyways, since 20 games rarely makes someone an All-Star)
Komisarek does not deserve to be a starter, but as a reserve is more interesting. I'd say no based on this year, but last year he was probably the top physical dman in the league. No, he doesn't generate offense, but the hits and blocked shot stats are worth something. He may not be the best "fit" in terms of being fun to watch, but that has rarely bee the qualifying factor: you pick the best players and I think it's arguable that he is one of the 6 best dmen in the East. Scott Stevens went most years despite not generating much offense and no hitting at the All-Star game.

Either him or Mike Smith, but Miller is actually on a playoff-vying team which asides from Vanek, is nearly solely due to him.
He has maintained a 2.58 and a .912 despite one of the poorest defenses in the league, their quality is around 20% worse than the average team, comparables are Gerber (2.66 .908), Legace (3.30 .887) and Kipprusoff (2.82 and .901).
The ballots probably did that because there was little to no basis on this year due to the small sample of games, lets say he wasn't voted in, with 3 Habs already in and 1 per team rule, you think Kessel, Semin, Gange etc. are sitting for Kovalev?? Fat chance

It's not like someone watch it in the United State anyway, if i remember correctly last year the women softball championship got way more ratings than the NHL All Star game in the US.

You are changing your argument now - thats the whole point. You said only markov
deserved to be there - and what many of us are saying is that you can argue several habs deserve to be there - maybe they wouldnt be selected and maybe they dont deserve to be starters- but that was never your initial post.
And im not even going to dignify calling Ryan Miller the "unquestioned starter"...wow, talk about "out there".

Miller the starter ? Ha ! That would be a terrible, terrible joke. He shouldn't even be in the All-star game as one of the other two goalies. He's been ordinary on an ordinary team.
The only players on the Sabres lineup who deserve to be considered are Vanek and Roy. Vanek would be the logical choice, as he's a more flashy player than Roy.
But Miller ? What a joke.

I for one think that the Allstar game should be a reward game. Rewarding players on winning teams, who play a team game and system. I know i will probably get flamed for this, but i would like to see the top 10 teams from each conference be represented in the game, making the bottom 5 in each conference miss out.

Habs place quartet in All-Star starting lineup
Saturday, 01.03.2009 / 1:30 PM / 2009 NHL All-Star Game
By Adam Kimelman - NHL.com Staff Writer
The 2009 All-Star Game will be a celebration of the great history of the Montreal Canadiens during their centennial season.
While fans think fondly of the club's great history, there also will be a lot to cheer for in the present, as the Eastern Conference starting lineup for the 2009 All-Star Game will be tinged in bleu, blanc et rouge.
Four Canadiens were voted to start the game -- forward Alexei Kovalev, defensemen Andrei Markov and Mike Komisarek, and goaltender Carey Price.
Joining the Montreal faction will be a pair of players from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the defending Eastern Conference champs.
