Lame question I know, but what is the R of RFA?

RFA -- R? Free Agent

UFA = Unofficial Free Agent

Lame question I know, but what is the R of RFA?

RFA -- R? Free Agent

UFA = Unofficial Free Agent

RFA = Restricted Free Agent

UFA = Unrestricted Free Agent

An unrestricted free agent is either a drafted player with 7 years of experience or a certain age which I am unsure of, it is a player who has the right to discuss contract with any team.

A restricted free agent is a drafted player who may discuss contract with any team, but whose drafting team has leverage on as they can tie any offer that is made to and accepted by the player. It is a younger player than an UFA.

Jon Gleed (D) UFA end of season
Conrad Martin (D) Contract with Hamilton for next year but is a UFA and could be signed at anytime by an NHL team

Two players that must be signed by the summer are Ryan White © and Cameron Cepak (D). I also would sign Yannick Weber as his birthday is in September.

I would not be surprised if most of the UFAs are cut loose.

I can't see Cote and Biron coming back next season. They know that they won't make it at the NHL level with the Canadiens and aren't even the first ones to be called up. They have a better shot at defensive weak teams like Tampa Bay and others. Although I like to see at least one of them back with the Bulldogs to be a veteran presence for the young guys. Biron is pushing real hard for a last chance at the NHL level. He even is fighting this season which he didn't do for a couple of years.
1970 Habs
Cote, Milroy and Danis not Likely to Return to the Bulldogs

Cote:

"I really want to get to the next level and play in the NHL," Cote said. "I've been there before and I know I can help an NHL team to win some games, so if the Montreal Canadiens won't give me that opportunity, then for sure I'm going to try and make it somewhere else."

Milroy:

"I want to advance my career, somewhere. Montreal obviously doesn't want to give me the opportunity, then hopefully another team will."

Danis:

"I would have liked to see things unfold differently," Danis said. "I felt I really had a good start here and things have gone down from there." "I'd like to get a fresh start and see what can happen with another organization," Danis said.

All 3 are fringe players, unlikely to have a real impact at the NHL level anyway.

That will depend on if he is signed to another contract at the end of the season.

I suspect he may be courted by other teams as he was also the ECHL MVP (top point getter too) as a rookie this year too (only the 5th rookie in the history of the ECHL to do so). biggrin.gif

The Hamilton Bulldogs exercised their options on the AHL contracts of forwards Thomas Beauregard and David Desharnais for the 2008-2009 season.

It will be interesting how well does in the AHL because as a rookie this year Desharnais was the ECHL Rookie of the Year, ECHL Regular Season MVP and Kelly Cup Playoffs MVP.

I'm just as exicted to see Beauregard play. He apparently had a good training camp last year, and played well during pre-season (2 pts in 2 gp I think).

It'd be awesome if these two actually turned into two top six forwards for Montreal

Latest update from Spectator: Denis will be #1 in Hamilton, Manlow is gone, Baines is still in doubt.

The Montreal Canadiens think they have resolved the Hamilton Bulldogs' goaltending situation by signing NHL veteran Marc Denis.

"We have him projected as our number one goaltender in Hamilton and our two guys in Montreal are pretty well set as Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak," said Bulldogs general manager Julien BriseBois.

"Marc's aware of that. We always make sure we're really straightforward with guys and we're candid and we tell them what to expect even if it means we don't get a player because someone else is blowing some hot air at them."

The Montreal native signed a one-year, two-way contract.

Denis, 30, has played 348 games over 10 seasons in the NHL with Colorado, Columbus and Tampa Bay. But he's coming off a couple of seasons that haven't been up to his standards. He only played 10 games with the Lightning last year with a 1-5 record and a 4.05 goals against average. The 6-foot-1, 193-pounder also played 32 games with Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate in Norfolk posting an 11-17-2 record and a 2.91 goals against average.

"He's at a point, after a couple of seasons that weren't what everyone is used to from him, that he needs to get his game back to get back to the NHL," said BriseBois. "We feel we can help him achieve that and in the meantime he gives us good depth at that position and he's a really good goaltender for Hamilton."

BriseBois said everything he's heard about Denis leads him to believe he will be a good guy to work with the projected number two goaltender in Hamilton, Cedrick Desjardins as well as the Bulldogs other young players.

The Bulldogs general manager also confirmed that they have informed veteran Eric Manlow that they will not have a spot for him in Hamilton this season. He said they're still not sure about captain Ajay Baines who also falls into the veteran category.

"In the case of Ajay we hope to talk to him soon but because of his veteran status we're in a bit of a holding pattern because we need to fill some holes first," said BriseBois. "We have to see how many of those holes are veterans and then see what's left."

True but he is listed as a prospect with Montreal, not Phoenix, on the Hockey's Future website: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/montreal_canadiens

Also, based on the latest article in June, I am assuming he will be staying in the Habs organization: http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/253396.html

Translated in english (excuse my French as it is somewhat rusty):

"The season and hockey career of Olivier Latendresse took a new direction when on 18 February he was sent to the play for the Cincinatti Cyclones of the ECHL. His dream to play in the NHL once again became one of his priorities. After helping the Cyclones win the Stanley Cup of the ECHL, the Kelly Cup, the 22 year old player is preparing to attend/participate at the in the Montreal Canaden's training camp at the end of the summer.

He promises to do everything that Guy Carboneau and the other coaches require at training camp. Though he knows that it is rare that a player makes the jump from the ECHL to the NHL Olivier says he has as much a chance as any other (player) to surprise people. He added that people do not know that the ECHL offers a calibre of hockey very close to the AHL.

For the first time in six years he finds himself on the same team as his brother Guillaume. It talks about them both playing in the QMJHL. olivier in Val'd Or and Guillaume with Drummonville. He says to play hockey with his brother in Montreal he realizes is a young dream.

It talks about his time in the Phoenix Coyote organization, playing for the San Antonio Rampage (the Phoenix Coyote's AHL farm team) and subsequent demotion to the Central Hockey League. It was at that point he contacted his agent Pat Brison and asked him help to jump start his career. He basically says that he knew if he continued along the same path that his dream of playing in the NHL would disappear. He played a defensive system in Phoenix and it stifled his game.

In Cincinatti he was given the opportunity to play a more offensive game, something he was never given a chance to do in the Phoenix organization. With the Cyclones he played on the the two top lines and was used on the power play. In 22 playoff games he tallied 7 goals and 12 assists while in the 24 regular season games with Cincinatti before the playoffs he scored 7 goals and 28 assists."
fansince1975
I would think the Bull Dogs will have one of the better teams in the AHL. The ECHL team won the Kelly Cup so several of these players will make the jump to Hamilton. BG has been busy getting minor league players via trades and several young prospects have signed AHL contracts.

The team looks like it will have some big tough players to make up for some of players who left the team.

Don't think this team will win it all like they did in 2007. But they should be a good team and more importantly Don Lever should help develop players like Maxwell, White, Subban, D‘Agostini, and other players for the NHL.

Well even after reading this thread, I'm not completely sure who is not returning for next year. The way I understand it is that Degon, Lahti, Urquhart , Bonneau, Danis, Biron, Ferland, Milroy, Cote and Archer are not returning. I am also hearing Manlow will not be returning, but Baines looks like he might be. My guess would be something like this... Of course, all of this is providing Gainey doesn't sign anymore prospects.

Pacioretty-Maxwell-D'Agostini
???-Trotter-Glumac
Baines-White-Wyman
Flinn-???-Stewart

Valentenko-Carle
Belle-Martin
Henry-???

Denis/Desjardins

Any where you see ??? could potentially be filled by one of the following players who played in Cinncinati last year.

Thomas Beauregard (RW) Spent entire season in Cinncinati
David Desharnais ( C ) Played 6 games in Hamilton, rest of season in Cinncinati
Ryan Russell ( C ) Played 25 games in Hamilton, 12 in Cinncinati
Mathieu Aubin ( C ) Played 47 games with Cinncinati, played 20 games with Hamilton
Olivier Latendresse ( C ) Loaned to Canadiens from Phoenix, played 24 game in Cinncinati
Jon Gleed (D) Played 22 games in Hamitlon, played in 23 in Cinncinati

Can anyone tell me the contract status of the players listed above (what team, what level, how long etc..)?

Desharnais and Beauregard were 1 and 2 respectively for team scoring in Cincinatti, so they've been kept. Probably both going to Hamilton. Latendresse was tearing it up in Cincinatti as well so he should be there.

I know next to nothing about the Bulldogs but:

Pacioretty - Maxwell - D'Agostini
Latendresse* - Desharnais - Beauregard
???????? - White - Wyman
Glumac - Trotter - Stewart

Valentenko - Carle
Belle - Biron
Henry - Cote

Denis
Desjardins

*Hamilton's got so many centers unless he's a really good faceoff man they might take Latendresse and put him on the wing of Desharnais who I think he played with in Cincinatti.
