to make more sense out of the trade with grabovski, greg was selected 128th while in the tanguay trade we got a 5th rounder and got to pick 138th. Looks like it may have been Greg we were after instead of trunev. Interesting smile.gif

Don't forget, we only have his rights; he isn't officially signed to the team.

Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson

On Greg Pateryn … "We're not necessarily bringing him in (for 2008-09) -- he's available. He's signed and he's playing in the U.S. Hockey League. I can't tell you he'll be coming in for sure. We have to have options and he's an option for us. He's a kid who is probably going to need two years in the U.S. Hockey League. But he is coming to Michigan, it's just a matter of when."

Associate Head Coach Mel Pearson

On Greg Pateryn … " Greg Pateryn is a big, strong, physical defenseman with really good offensive instincts. He's played a lot of the power play down in Ohio. He's putting up decent numbers for a first-year player right out of high school. He's going to come in and add some size to our defense. He's a smart defenseman with the puck, able to make that first outlet pass. He'll add some offensive instincts to our team. He's come a long way in one year from the high school ranks to juniors. Greg has always wanted to come to Michigan. He's a Brother Rice (High School) kid and he grew up here. He really has a love for Michigan and Michigan hockey. He's playing in Ohio and we have an agreement with him that we'll reevaluate him at the end of the year. It's a pretty big jump from Michigan high school hockey into college and I think that's one of the reason's he left his senior year and went down into the USHL -- he's played very well there. He might need another year, so we're going to reevaluate that at the end of the season and sit down with Greg and just see if another year would make sense for him and us."

Neither is anyone we picked up in the draft. Heck I don't think Max Pacioretty has even signed with us yet. I believe its 3 years to get him under contract so no worries.

It is going to hurt me personally a lot to see him popping in goals against us in a Toronto uniform! angry.gif

According to Timmins, the scouts were really pushing for Trunev to be picked.

Greg Pateryn's University of Michigan Wolverines (29-11-0) has qualified for the first time since 1994 to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship.

Michigan (Pacioretty's NCAA team last year) is ranked #1 going onto the East Regional Championships on March 27-28 held at Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport Connecticut

The game schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 27, 3 p.m. Eastern time, ESPNU HD
No. 1 Michigan (29-11-0) vs. No. 4 Air Force (27-10-2)

Friday, March 27, 6:30 p.m. Eastern time, ESPNU HD
No. 2 Yale (24-7-2) vs. No. 3 Vermont (20-11-5)

If Michigan wins their game they will play for the Championship on Saturday 28 March at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time

If they win the Championship then they will advance to the NCAA Frozen Four Tounament that will be held April 9th and 11th at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. for a chance to win the NCAA crown.

They are ranked 4th overall in the U.S. entering the NCAA Final 16 playoffs.

Wolverines Fall to No. 15 Air Force in NCAA First Round

"Despite outshooting the Falcons by a 43-13 margin, the Wolverines were shut out for the fifth time this season and the first time in 71 games of NCAA Tournament play."

In the NCAA one game elimination format strange things can happen when you run into a hot goaltender. That's what happened with Michigan last night. ohmy.gif That's it for the season for Pateryn.

Whats the latest on this kid? Still young, but he's a tough, big d-man, right hand shot too. He'd look good along with one of the young offensive d-men we got, in time.

I think he's about to start his senior year at Michigan, Mac Bennett will be a freshman on the same team.Players in Montreal's system from Michigan are Cammelleri, Pacioretty, Pateryn and Bennett. Wolverines apt name for the way these guys play, they have a reunion this month for all past players. Nice!

Actually, Greg will be entering his third, or "junior" year this coming season at Michigan, so he and Mac Bennett may be teammates for a couple of years.
And you can add to your list of Michigan alumni the name Aaron Palushaj, the F prospect we received from St.Louis in the D'Agostini trade late last season. Palushaj was a Wolverine for two seasons (07-08 & 08-09) and actually led the team in scoring his last year at UM.
FYI: Former Habs blueliner Mike Komisarek was also a Wolverine.

Yeah I forgot he played with Pacioretty at Michigan, quite a few former Red Berenson's player's have made it to the Habs.
