He will be a great 4th liner for the next 15 years. He has great speed, he fights like a pitbull, hits EVERYTHING (I'm lookin at you Lats!), blocks shots, kills penalties, and will do WHATEVER it takes to win. A true competitor. And he's a Murray like me, so that makes me like him that much more. He plays like a Murray too, lol...

No doubt Garth is one of the most spirited and energetic players on this team, a stronger version of Begin in my mind, but without the same leadership qualities.

However, from my perspective, he may get lost in the mix this year, and will likely see a decrease in ice-time from last season, since he's battling for his spot with Perezhogin (likely), and with the addition of Latendresse and Johnson to the bottom two lines, Carbonneau might be looking to add a bit of a speedy, scoring "zest" to those lines, which is why Murray is unfortunately in a tough spot right now.

With the Ribero trade I think Garth is going to see similar ice time to what he had last year. Garth also has potential to be a leader in the NHL. He was a fantastic captain with the Regina Pats and is a very good leader and well liked because of his "team first" attitude. It's easy for other players to follow and like someone who leads by example.

Am I the only one wondering why Garth is being scratched for Aaron Downey in the home opener? Garth has twice the speed and does everything for this team that he can. Not to belittle another player but what has Aaron done for this team? He doesn't have a fight to his name as a Hab, he can't skate near as well as Garth and doesn't even have Garth's skill.

I'm pretty biased however since I'm a Habs fan because of Garth, I've watched him since he was the captain of the Regina Pats. Am I the only one who thinks the lineup is stronger with Garth in the lineup?

I think it's a temporary situation. Let's also not forget that Garth is playing the right wing and he's left handed, to allow Latendresse to play on his natural side... while Downey is a right winger.

I agree. I like Downey, but Murray is an ideal 4th liner. He will literally do what ever it takes to win. It's a shame he just missed blocking that shot against the leafs, but the kid has heart, speed, and a nose for the nasty. I can't wait to see this kid fight, because he seems to have no regard for his own protection and just fights like he wants to hit the other guy no matter what the cost. I think once Latendresse proves himself, they will move Lats to the 3rd line (move someone else to hamilton) and Murray will have his spot back. At least this way, he knows he has to prove himself everytime he is on the ice, and that means more fights and big hits!

Too bad we have lost the original thread of the Hossa/Murray trade due to the old forum's problems, as I'd like to go read back on the comments we had to moderate at that point... it really wasn't pretty!

I can sum it up for you:

about 150 people saying "This trade sucks. we should have gotten a star for hossa. just watch, he'll get 80 pts this season!!"

about 10 people (who had a knowledge of murray - several rangers' fans) saying: "oh you're going to like this guy - he is a super hard worker & brings a lot (other than scoring) to this team"

about 15 people (you and I included) saying "well, this trade seems strange on paper...but so many of Gainey's have...so lets give it a chance"

That pretty much sums it up, i think wink.gif hehe.
